Zack Myers scores max points to bring home the 2017 AJ's Heavenly Pizza IDIOTS Series championship! Tension had been building after the race had been postponed a week, but that didn't hurt kart count. 14 karts showed up, but the attention was all on Zack Myers and Tony Beaber. Beaber held a slight point lead coming into the day, but Myers was in close striking distance, only 5 points behind. Qualifying had big impact on the day, setting the heat race lineups. Tony Beaber struck first setting quick time, and new track record at 7.65, but Zack was 3rd, putting them in the same heat. In the heat race Myers was able hold off Beaber to get the 3 points, ensuring him a title with a feature win.
The feature got underway with 12 of the 14 karts taking the green. Beaber started on pole and led early with Howdy Sabo and Myers in toe. Beaber and Myers traded the lead, with every swap having major championship implications. Yellows came early and often as the track became more and more slick, relegating green flag runs to short bursts of just a few laps. At the mid way point Jimmy Mcgrath worked his way past Myers an then Beaber to the lead. as the those three and Adam Halbeisen and Clay Kirchenbauer all ran in a pack together trading spots. Troy Halbeisen joined them after driving from the tail multiple times. The longest green flag run saw Mcgrath jump out to the lead and start walking away from the field. Then going into turn one with a big lead and just a few laps to go, he lost it and did a 360, handing the lead back to Myers, with Troy Halbeisen and Tony Beaber, who had a souring motor, in tow. Mcgrath then was spun again on an ensuing caution, forcing him to go to the tail. With Mcgrath stuck in traffic, Myers set sail, surviving a few late race restarts and a strong challenge in the closing laps from Mike Burkin to bring home the win, and the IDIOTS Series Championship.
